about

2sisters2kitchen is a collaborative project of two sisters, who live in Washington, DC and Brooklyn, NY. The brings together two kitchens promoting promotes seasonal and sustainable food.

Madina Kassengaliyeva:  I began cooking to substitute for our mom’s delicious meals after I went away to college.  At breakfast, I think about lunch and at lunch, I think about dinner.  Taking in the bounty of local farmers’ markets makes me happy and I gladly spend hours working at a community farm in Red Hook, Brooklyn where I have a work-share.  I think real food tastes best and what’s good for us is also good for the Earth.

Saule Kassengaliyeva:  food is a way to express love, care, and appreciation. To me, there is nothing more precious than setting up breakfast of coffee and warm croissants for my mom while she is still asleep or making a third batch of cookies for John even if he has several dozens of them frozen (he clearly has a problem with cookies).
Since August 2013, all recipes published by me will be in English and Russian, so that despite thousands of kilometers that separate us I, my family, and friends back home can share a meal.
